Hyundai Motor unveils Equus limousine

SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest carmaker,
unveiled Tuesday its top-of-the-range Equus limousine in an ambitious effort to
take on Daimler AG, BMW AG and Toyota Motor Corp.

The Equus limousine comes equipped with either a 3.8-liter or a 5-liter V8
gasoline engine. The 5-liter engine can produce 400 horsepower at full throttle,
Hyundai said in a statement.
With the new model, Hyundai aims to compete with the Lexus LS460L, Benz S500L and
BMW 750Li in South Korea, according to the statement.
"The Equus limousine will become the luxury car that shines premium customers,"
said Yang Seung-seok, head of Hyundai's global sales division.
The car is priced from 135 million won (US$113,200) to 146 million won, depending
on accessories and engine type, in South Korea, Hyundai said.
Hyundai did not specify how many units of the Equus limousine it is hoping to
sell or whether it will bring it to overseas markets.
