Hyundai Motor captures No. 4 spot in China
SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Yonhap) -- The Chinese venture of Hyundai Motor Co., South
Korea's largest carmaker, captured the No. 4 spot in the world's most populous
country in the January-August period, an industry report showed Wednesday.
Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Hyundai's joint venture with Beijing Automotive
Industry Holdings Co., sold 197,320 units for the eight-month period, grabbing
market share of 8.2 percent in China, according to the report by a Chinese auto
industry group.
For the same period, Chinese automakers took the top three spots.
Hyundai has increased its market share in China this year as it sells
China-exclusive models, analysts say.
Hyundai recently upgraded its sales target for 2009 in China to 500,000 units
from 300,000 units
Separately, the Chinese venture of Kia Motors Corp., an affiliate of Hyundai,
also increased its market share in China to 2.7 percent by the end of August,
compared with 2.6 percent in 2008, according to the report.
