QUAKE KILLS 13 IN WEST SUMATRA

Jakarta, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - The health ministry reported 13 people were killed until 8.30 pm after a magnitude-7.6 quake hit West Sumatra at 5.16 pm on Wednesday.

"Thirteen people are reported to have been killed," the head of the ministry's crisis control center, Rustam S Pakaya, said.

He said according to reports he had received, part of the local Jamil Hospital building had also collapsed and some people were buried under the debris.

He said the center was preparing the setting up of a field hospital in Padang and had also mobilized a medical team from the regional crisis center and Palembang to help victims.

"They will depart tonight by land carrying medical supplies and also body bags," he said.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophyics Agency the epicenter of the quake was at 0.84 degrees southern latitude and 99.65 degrees northern longitude, around 57 kilometers northwest of Pariaman, West Sumatra, at a depth of 71 kilometers.
