MOST TELKOM FACILITIES IN W SUMATRA WORKING AGAIN
Jakarta, Oct 3 (ANTARA) - Most of PT Telkom's telecommunication services such as fixed telephone and fixed wireless access (FWA) TelkomFlexi in quake-devastated West Sumatra are now functioning again, a company spokesman said.
"TelkomFlexi services are back to normal, subscribers can call other people in or outside West Sumatra, or receive calls from inside or outside West Sumatra," PT Telkom's public communication and marketing director, Eddy Kurnia, said here on Saturday.
He said the restoration of Telkom's communication services was at least facilitating the processes of evacuating and further handling earthquake victims.
At present, 48 of Telkom's 85 Flexi Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in West Sumatra were functioning normally again.
Of the 48 BTS, 9 were serving the 0751 area code, 18 the 0752, 3 the 0753, 9 the 0754, and 9 the 0755 area codes.
He added that most of the Automatic Telephone Exchange Terminals (STOs) were working again with electricity from generators.
The STOs for Bukittinggi and Solok STO were operating again since Thursday after receiving power supply from state electricity company PT PLN.
Meanwhile, STO at Kinali Baru was expected operate with power supply from generators.
The two STOs closest to the earthquake's epicenter, the Padang and Pariaman STOs with a capacity of about 25,000 SSTs were in good condition and able to operate.
Technical assistance and equipment had also arrived from Pekanbaru in Riau and Medan in North Sumatra.
Total capacity of West Sumatra STOs normally reached 180,000 Lines In Service (LIS) and for fixed phone subscribers 152,000 SSTs.
There are 85 Flexi BTS in the area with subscribers totaling about 61,000 SSF while Speedy speed internet subscribers number 18,000.
To help the emergency response efforts in Padang, Telkom had established a 'Telkom Peduli' Command Post located at its office on Jalan KHA Dachlan No. 17.
The command post would help people who need telecommunication facilities, considering that many customers' house telecommunication installations are broken. ***
