FLOOD 2ND LD AP 2

There has been an improvement in the situation as
inflows from Tungabhadra at Vaddepally and Iza mandals in
Mahabubnagar have decreased, Rosaiah said.

In Kurnool district, water level has come down in Handri
by seven to eight feet and in Tungabhadra by three to four
feet, he said.

Over one lakh people are being evacuated in Vijayawada
city alone and 50,000 people have been shifted to safer places
from 28 flood-prone villages, Rosaiah said.

The government is conducting rescue and relief operations
with 15 helicopters, some of them from the Army, and over 150
boats.

Around 550 army personnel and 165 personnel of National
Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were involved in the rescue and
relief efforts.

Rosaiah said the government is trying to provide basic
facilities to flood victims by airdropping food packets, water
sachets, essential medicines and bleaching powder.

The Chief Minister said the district officials have been
allowed to draw funds as per necessity and also to take
decisions quickly without having to worry about procedural
wrangles.

He said the government has also urged the neighbouring
Karnataka not to release anymore water from its dams if
their capacity permitted. MORE PTI SJR
