Flood situation is still grim in Krishna district: Rosaiah
Vijayawada, Oct 4 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K
Rosaiah on Sunday said the flood situation is still grim in
Krishna district after undertaking an aerial survey of the
affected areas in the state.
"There is relief in Kurnool and Mahboobnagar districts
but the situation is still grim in Krishna and Guntur
districts where many villages face inundation," he said.
Rosaiah later landed here for a brief review of the
situation with authorities. The situation continued to be
critical as far as flood in river Krishna was concerned, the
chief minister told newsmen.
State Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao accompanied the
chief minister.
The flow of water is expected to cross 10.5 lakh cusecs
mark from the current 8 lakh cusecs at Prakasam Barrage.
"This is the heaviest flood in river Krishna. We have
already taken a number of measures to prevent loss of life by
moving people along the river banks to safer places. But still
many of them have to be shifted. I appeal to the people to
heed the officials' advice and go to the relief camps
immediately," Rosaiah said.
The respective District Collectors have been empowered to
take appropriate decisions to tackle the situation, he said,
adding there was no dearth of funds for flood relief
operations as the Collectors have been empowered to draw money
under Treasury Rules-27.
The chief minister later left for Kurnool for an aerial
survey of the flood-ravaged areas. PTI DBV
