Samsung Electronics' Q3 operating profit estimated at 4 tln won

SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest computer
memory chipmaker, probably posted a consolidated operating income of around 4
trillion won (US$3.4 billion) for the third quarter of this year, analysts said
Monday.

The estimate comes a day before Samsung is scheduled to announce its guidance for
the July-September period. The company plans to disclose its third-quarter
earnings around the end of this month.
According to market watchers, Samsung is estimated to have registered an
operating income of 3.6 trillion won to 4 trillion won for the last quarter on a
consolidated basis. The prediction is well above Samsung's operating income of
2.52 trillion won for the second quarter.
Samsung's sales for the third quarter are estimated to have reached 32.5 trillion
won, according to the analysts.
Samsung's strong third-quarter performance could be attributable to a recovery in
prices of semiconductors and liquid crystal displays, they said, adding increased
sales of TVs and mobile phones were also responsible.
