NUMBER OF SUMATRA'S DEATH TOLL RISES TO 609

Padang, Oct 6 (ANTARA) - The number of death toll in West Sumatra's powerful earthquake which struck the province on Wednesday, September 30 last week up to 8 pm on Monday reached 609.

The biggest number of dead victims was found in Padang city reaching 242, and in Padang Pariaman district 286, according to data made available at West Sumatra's Disasters Mitigation Task Force on Monday night.

Besides, the number of those suffering from serious injuries was 603, minor ones 2,096 and those missing 345.

The earthquake also destroyed 92,940 houses and damaged 47,287 others.
