"To curb industrial effluent from flowing in the
river, an action plan of all the critical pollution hot spots
on the banks of Ganga will be prepared within next three
months," Ramesh said while giving details of the issues taken
up at the meeting.

The Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand and Bihar, Ramesh
Pokhriyal and Nitish Kumar, representatives from Jharkhand,
West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh and eight non-official members
were present at the meeting of the Authority which was
constituted early this year.

"While a comprehensive river basin management plan
will be ready by December 2010, on-going sweage treatment
projects will be put on fast-track and states will be told to
formulate detailed project report for new such projects in
critical pollution hotspots and major towns along the Ganga
and its major tributaries by the end of next month," he added.

On the fate of the power projects such as Loharinag
Pala on Ganga river in northern state of Uttarakhand, Ramesh
said that his ministry as well the power ministry will study
the impact of such plants and submit a report to the Authority
in 60 days.

"The work at NTPC's Loharnag Pala has been stopped
while at Pala Maneri and Bhairon Ghati the work is yet to
start. The matter will be jointly studied by Environment and
Power ministries and a report will be submitted to the NRGBA
in 60 days," Ramesh added.

Discussion on signing of tripartite agreement between
the Centre, States and civic agencies, setting up of a
standing committee and empowered committee to expedite
clearance for the projects on the river were held at the
