BRUMBY-INDIA 2LST

Brumby said though there could be drop in Indian student
enrolments in Australia, it would be largely restricted to
private-run courses.

"You always see a variation from year to year. We have
seen very strong growth in recent years. I don't think you'll
see big differences at the university level. I think you will
see some significant change in the private-run courses. And
the issue there of course is some of the private providers
have been audited," he said.

"The federal government is also reviewing some of the
visa and migration agent arrangements. You also have a global
financial crisis so you will see some differences and some
changes," he said.

"But nevertheless we are determined to get this right. We
are determined to make sure the system works properly. That
is, the courses that are offered are good courses, are
high-quality courses offering value for money," Brumby said.

Citing examples of Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Dublin,
Edinburgh and other cities in the US and the UK, Brumby said
"there is an increasing concern around the world in the last
12 to 18 months of what appears to be a trend towards more
aggressive behaviour by people, particularly young males". PTI
