Seoul shares open stronger on Wall Street gains

SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Wednesday as
investor sentiment was boosted by overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 23.57 points, or
1.47 percent, to 1,622.01 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed higher on Tuesday on optimism about imminent quarterly
earnings reports. The Dow Jones industrial average rallied 1.37 percent and the
tech-focused Nasdaq composite index shot up 1.71 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,168.65 to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up
1.65 won from Tuesday's close.
