Seoul shares up 0.27 pct in late morning
By Lee Youkyung
SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.27 percent higher late
Wednesday morning as rallies by commodity producers offset losses in autos and
tech companies, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 4.36 points to
1,602.8 as of 11:20 a.m., after jumping as high as 1.67 percent.
Commodity-related shares traded in positive territory as a weak dollar pushed up
oil prices, outweighing losses in exporters. Korea Zinc, the world's second
biggest zinc smelter, climbed more than 6 percent, while top carmaker Hyundai
Motor sank more than 2 percent on concerns over the strengthening local currency.
The local currency was trading at 1,172.15 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., down 1.15 won from Tuesday's close.
