Sales of imported cars in S. Korea rise 7.1 pct in Sept.

SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- Sales of imported cars in South Korea rose 7.1 percent
from a year ago in September, thanks to promotional campaigns and the
introduction of new brands, industry data showed Wednesday.
Import sales totaled 5,971 units last month, rising for the first month after two
months of decline, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association
said in a statement. Compared with a month earlier, September sales jumped 65.3
percent.
Germany's Mercedes-Benz was the most popular foreign car brand in South Korea
last month with 1,465 vehicles sold, followed by BMW with 1,059 units and Audi
with 719, the statement said.
In the first nine months of this year, sales of imported cars in South Korea fell
15.4 percent from a year ago to 42,645 units, it said.
