BAKRIE ELECTED GOLKAR CHAIRMAN
Pekanbaru, Indonesia, Riau, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - Golkar's Advisory Board member Aburizal Bakrie was elected general chairman of the political party for the 2009-2014 period at the party's congress here early on Thursday.
"Mr Aburizal Bakrie is elected Golkar's general chairman," Fadel Muhammad who presided over the sessions of the congress, said after the vote count here on Thursday morning.
Bakrie won 296 votes against his strong rival Surya Paloh who grabbed 240 votes. Two other candidates Tommy Soeharto and Yuddy Chrinandi won no single vote.
After being declared as the Golkar's general chairman-elect, Bakri delivered his victory address.
