ANTASARI CHARGED WITH PREMEDITATED MURDER
Jakarta, Indonesia, Oct 8 (ANTARA) - Former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Antasari Azhar was charged with premeditated murder of PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran (PRB)'s president directer Nasruddin Zulkarenaen, at the South Jakarta district court here on Thursday.
During the first court session, public prosecutor Cyrus Sinaga said that Antasari Azhar was charged under Article 340 in lieu of Article 55 points one and two of the Criminal Code (KUHP).
Thursday's court session was the first hearing of the Antasari case and presided over by Judge Herri Swantoro.
"The defendant together with two others (Senior Commissioner Williardi Wizar and Sigit Haryo Wibisono) had persuaded Edo and accompanies to commit the murder that caused the lost of life of a person, namely Nasruddin Zulkarnaen," he said.
In the meantime, Antasari Azhar said he did not understand the charge made on him, namely Article 340 in lieu of Article 55 point one and two.
"Who persuaded whom," Antasari who wore a gray batik shirt said.
Cyrus after the session said the defendant was taken to court because he and his plot had persuaded others to commit a murder.
"Why did he do not understand the charges. After all, he is a former KPK chairman. He must be pretending," he said.
In the meantime, the south Jakarta district court will convene the next session on October 15, 2009 with the agenda to listen to Azhar's response to the charges.
Nasruddin Zulkarnaen was shot in the head after he played golf in a golf course in Tangerang, Banten, last July. He died at a hospital.
Five other defendants are now under prosecution in the district court of Banten.
Antasari was accused of masterminding the murder after he was allegedly involved in a three-sided love affair between him, Nasruddin and Rany (a caddy at the golf course).
In this case, Williardi was accused of acting as the executioner, while Sigit the financier. ***
