OECD forum to be held in S. Korea this month

SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- Global leaders, renowned economists and members of the
business community will gather in South Korea later this month to attend an
international forum on how to foster global economic growth and prosperity,
organizers said Thursday.
The OECD World Forum, the third of its kind, will kick off on Oct. 27 for a four
day run in the nation's southeastern port city of Busan, according to the
National Statistical Office (NSO), which organizes the event jointly with the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The gathering first started in Italy in 2004 in a bid to more accurately gauge
the extent of economic growth and development, which can apply both to advanced
and developing countries, the NSO explained.
This year's forum, being held under the theme "Chartering Progress, Building
Visions and Improving Life," will likely attract around 1,500 people from some
130 countries including political leaders and economists. Renowned Nobel
Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz will also be among the participants, the
NSO said.
Various events will be held on the sidelines of the gathering including an
exhibition that will be open to the general public, it added.
