INDONESIAN STOCKS CLOSE LOWER IN MORNING TRADING

Jakarta, Oct. 8 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed lower here on Thursday morning trading session.

The BEI index went down 32.81 points or 1.37 percent to 2,478.89, and the LQ45 index, a group of 45 liquid shares, weakened 7.720 points to 487.38.

The sale-offs by investors and the already overbought condition affected the BEI Index to weaken, David Ferdinandus, an analyst of Indomitra Securities, said here on Thursday.

At regional bourses, Hang Seng index surged 81.95 points or 0.39 percent to 21.323, Nikkei-225 index advanced 14.19 points or 0.14 percent to 9.813 points, and Straits Times index lost 2.34 points or 0.09 percent to the position of 2,632.

Among shares which went down at the BEI, were PTBA shares which lost Rp 300 to Rp 14,100, BUMI shares that slumped Rp 150 to Rp 2,725, BCA (BBCA) shares which fell Rp 175 to Rp 4,750, state telecommunication company PT Telkom (TLKM) shares that slided Rp 100 to Rp 8,550, state bank BRI (BBRI) shares which dropped Rp 200 to Rp 8,350, Bank Mandiri (BMRI) shares that decreased Rp 125 to Rp 4,925.

The transactions at the BEI were once again dominated by 133 shares which lost, 40 shares which advanced, and only 58 shares that remained static. The volume of traded shares reached 4.001 billion, with a total value of Rp5.83 trillion, and 60,479 times of transactions.

Earlier, the IHSG at the BEI opened slightly lower after rallies over the past three days. The BEI index went down 2.378 points or 0.06 percent to 2,511.028 points and the LQ-45 index dropped 0.491 points or 0.14 percent to 494,624 points.

Meanwhile, the rupiah continued to strengthen against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here early Thursday as investors still actively hunted the local currency.

The Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,365-Rp9,375 per US dollar, up 55 points from Rp9,420-Rp9,435 at the market's close a day earlier.***
