Sound proof rail corridor near C'Wealth games village
New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI) In order to ensure a peaceful
atmosphere for athletes participating in the Commonwealth
Games, Railways have given their nod for covering rail tracks
running close to the upcoming games village here with sound
proof material.
The 1.1 km-long sound proof corridor will ensure that
athletes are not disturbed by the passing trains and have a
comfortable stay in the games village.
"When completed, it will be one its kind sound proof
railway corridor in the country," a senior Railway Ministry
official said.
The construction work will be carried out by Delhi
Development Authority (DDA), which had approached the railways
with the idea, he said.
DDA Officials said it will take about three months to
construct the corridor. The cost of raising the corridor is
being worked out.
The games village which is coming up near the Akshardham
temple in east Delhi will house more than 8000 athletes during
the sporting event.
The railway official said as per the plan, boundary walls
made of sound-proof material will be raised on both sides of
the rail tracks leaving little scope for sound to percolate
outside.
The sound proof material will be imported and
construction work will adhere to highest level of safety, the
official said.
As many as 600 trains pass through this area every day,
making it one of the busiest and congested stretches in the
country.
The official, however, indicated that the structure may
be disbanded after the games are over.
As part of the railways' preparations for the
Commonwealth Games, all stations falling in the capital will
be spruced up and tastefully decorated, the official said.
The stations would also include those falling on the ring
rail route.
Besides this, several beautification programmes in New
Delhi station would be carried out. PTI SGI
