YEMENI COMPANY DEVELOPS ANTI-VIRAL DRUG FOR H1N1 FLUE



SANA'A, Oct.08(Saba) - The Yemeni pharmaceutical company YEDCO has
developed anti-viral drug for the Swine Flue (H1N1) and registered
it at the Yemeni General Authority of Medicines and Medical
Supplements.

General Director of the High Authority for Medicines and Medical
Supplements Dr. Abdul-Monem al-Hakami said that the drug registered
by YEDCO at the authority is the same medicine invented by a
Switzerland company before years.

Speaking to Saba, al-Hakami added that the Switzerland medicine
called "Tamiflu", which consists of Oseltaamivir phosphate75mg
capsules, is anti-viral drug for the seasonal flue that approved
recently by WHO as anti-viral drug for curing Swine Flue and Bird
Flue and now being produced by a number of companies in the world.

YEDCO's General Manager Mohammed Abdul-Kader made it clear that the
Yemeni company developed the Switzerland medicine after getting a
license from another company which is licensed by the mother company.

He pointed that a Yemeni specialized medical team has developed the
drug after conducting a number of medical studies and tests in the
company according to the global medical standards, noting that YEDCO
is the first local company develops and registers this medicine.

After two years from the scientific studies and tests on the
medicine used for curing Bird flue, which was developed to be used
as anti-viral for H1N1virus , indicating that the new medicine which
called "Aviflu" is now available in a number of the local pharmacies
and hospitals, Abdul-Kader Added.
