WHO earmarks 2.2 mln doses of anti-H1N1 vaccine for Yemen
FES, Oct.08 (Saba) - World Health Organization (WHO) has allocated 2.2 million dosages of anti-H1N1 vaccine for
Yemen
at a total cost of $15 million which is enough for 10 percent of population in Yemen.
On marginal of the 56th session of WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern
Mediterranean held in Fez, Morocco, during 5-8 October 2009, Minister of Public
Health and Population
Abdul-Karim Rase'a asked WHO, in his meeting with WHO's General Director, to
allocate a share from the vaccines it has got from donors and the vaccine
manufacturers for the
Eastern Mediterranean region and the poorest countries in the region.
WHO said that the first batch of vaccine for the region would be at the end of
November, 2009.
On the sideline of the session, Rase'a also met separately with his counterparts in
some Arab countries for reviewing the health cooperation fields between Yemen and
each
country and means of promoting them.
During the meetings, Rase'a noted the efforts exerted by Yemen for the sake of
getting support to that the region countries from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS,
Tuberculosis
and Malaria.
