S. Korea reports 12th flu death

SEOUL, Oct. 9 (Yonhap) -- A 68-year-old South Korean man infected with type-A
influenza virus died Friday, raising the death toll from the contagious disease
here to 12, health officials said.
The patient tested positive for the H1N1 virus Sept. 14 after showing flu-like
symptoms such as coughing and high fever. He had been treated for pneumonia
caused by the infection, according to the Ministry for Health, Welfare and
Ministry.
He was categorized as being in the highly vulnerable group of flu patients
because of his advanced age and intestinal cancer, the ministry said. He died of
pneumonia and intestine bleeding, it added.
The latest death comes weeks after South Korea reported its 11th flu death on
Sept. 24, according to the ministry.
