U.N. TOP OFFICIAL VISITS DISPLACED CAMP IN NORTH
HAJJAH, Oct. 09 (Saba) - U.N. Under-Secretary-General for
Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes
paid on Friday a visit to the Mizraq refugee camp, 30 km east of the
Haradh city in Yemen's northern province of Hajjah.
Holmes praised efforts exerted by the government to help the people
at the camp who were displaced by the war between the government
forces and the Houthi rebels as well as the level of coordination
between the authorities and international relief agencies to provide
aid.
Saying that those who have not been reached by relief agencies will
receive more attention in the future, Holmes stressed the importance
of providing aid for the affected, particularly food, health and
shelter services, assuring efforts are underway to coordinate aid
delivery for them.
Holmes arrived in Yemen early Friday for a visit to draw the world's
attention to the humanitarian situation in the country amid
persistent confrontations between the army and insurgents in Saada
and Amran that started in August.
He has called on the international community and donors to provide
more aid for the affected, pointing out that the U.N. Emergency Fund
allocated this year more than $ 7 million for Yemen to cope with its
problems.
He also pointed to a previous urgent appeal to provide
$ 23 million in aid for over 150.000 people affected by Yemen
conflict.
