$ 2.2 IN GERMANY AID FOR YEMEN WAR VICTIMS

SANA'A, Oct. 11 (Saba) - Germany has donated $ 2.2 million that
would be channeled through aid agencies for the war-affected people
in northern Yemen, the country's embassy in Sana'a announced on
Sunday.

The International Red Cross, the UN Refugee Organization UNHCR and
the World Food Programme have each received 500.000 EUR (700.000
USD) by the German Government to enable them to deliver humanitarian
assistance to those most affected by the ongoing military conflict
between the army and the Houthi rebels.

The sum comes in response to the call of the U.N. for providing aid
to help more than 150.000 displaced in Saada and Amran.

Responding to the urgent appeal on the matter, earlier the U.S.,
Britain, France and other foreign and regional countries provided
millions of dollars in aid for the displaced.

The army has been battling the Houthi insurgents supported by
Iranians since 2004.

The government has many times offered truces to end the conflict but
they were rejected by the Houthis who continued to attack the
troops, the people and properties.

In the recent confrontations, hundreds of insurgents were killed,
injured and arrested and many others surrendered as land an air
strikes intensified against them in various areas of Saada and some
parts of Amran.

The troops also destroyed rebel weapons, positions and retook over
many areas in the two provinces after riding them of the Houthis.
