Agriculture sector role in Yemen food security reviewed
SANA'A, Oct. 11 (Saba) -
Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hushaibi held talks on Sunday with
emergency
expert of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )FAO) over
possibilities of support for agriculture sector projects in Yemen and determining
priority projects
to be given support.
FAO has allocated $27 million in the framework of its emergency program to support
agriculture in Yemen to fund a number of agricultural projects in the future as
well
as to fund aid projects for the displaced people in Saada.
On the other hand, al-Hushaibi held talks on Sunday with World Bank (WB)
Consultant, who prepared a draft on climate changes and diversity in Yemen, over
preparing the draft
document which comes within the project of rain-fed agriculture and livestock wealth.
The meeting reviewed WB role to support agricultural development in Yemen,
including Climate Changes Project which comes as a donation from the WB worth
$4,600 million.
The project which is to be implemented for three years in Mahweet,Sana'a, Ibb and
Taiz governorates is to help Yemen face climate changes and its impact on
environment
within supporting and improving rain-fed agricultural crops on heights and improving
livestock wealth to increase agricultural sector product in Yemen and to boost its
role
in food security.
