SEVEN INVESTORS SIGN MOU IN KARIMUN, INDONESIA

Karimun, Riau Islands, Oct 12 (ANTARA) - The tenth anniversary of Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province in Indonesia, centered at the regent's home in Tanjung Balai Karimun, Monday, was marked with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) of seven local and foreign investors.

The seven investors are enterprises which are and will be operating in the regency, both in the free trade zone (FTZ) and in other areas.

PT Karimun Marine Shipyard (KMS) and PT Kinaka Shipyard in Pangke and Teluk Senang, Meral subdistrict, and Korea Consultant International (KCI) builder of power plants and other infrastructure projects.

The three undertakings had signed the MoU with chairman of the Karimun FTZ Agency HM Taufik with an investment of respectively 10 million US dollars, 23.1 million Singapore dollars, and 100 million US dollars.

Then came PT Aquabis Riau (Australian investor) and PT Saipem Indonesia, which had signed the MoU with the Karimun Regent H Nurdin Basirun, PT Aquabis Riau which planned to make an investment in a non-FTZ region worth Rp5.1 million US dollars in sea fish breeding and freezing in Moro Subdistrict waters.

In addition, PT Saipem will invest in education programs, training and recruiting local workers.

Two other companies, PT Karya Karimun Mandiri and PT 4848 Global Links, signed the MoU with the Karimun Port Management Agency (BUP) for investment in birthing areas.

Regent H Nurdin Basirun said the signing of the MoU was a special 10th birthday present for the regency.

''We thank God Karimun has increasingly drawn the attention of investors, including those from other countries, and this is quite a progress since the FTZ went into effect,'' he said.

He added that the operation of the investors in the region needs to be supported by all the relevant parties so that they will feel safe and comfortable in their investment activities.

''We, as the regional administration, will give the best of our services and the widest access to their business operations,'' he said.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Riau Islands Governor H Ismeth Abdullah, other high-ranking local government officials and public leaders.***2***
