Lalit K Jha
Washington, Oct 12 (PTI) American President Barack Obama
made a telephone call to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
to express concern over the recent attack on the Indian
Embassy in Kabul, the White House said Monday.
Obama, on whose invitation the Prime Minister is visiting
Washington next month, also said that he looked forward to
receiving Singh in the US capital.
The US President talked by phone with Singh on Saturday,
a day after the Indian leader called him to congratulate on
winning the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2009.
"Late Saturday morning, President Obama returned Indian
Prime Minister Singh's phone call. Prime Minister Singh had
called President Obama on Friday to congratulate him on having
won the Nobel Peace Prize," the White House said in a
statement.
"The President also underscored his concern for the
attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul and said that he looked
forward to receiving the Prime Minister in Washington later
this year," the statement said.
Singh will be paying the first state visit of the Obama
Administration in November.
"The President expressed his appreciation for the call
and congratulations. He noted that he was humbled and grateful
for having received the Nobel, and that he saw it as a call to
collective action on shared challenges," the statement said.
