GOLKAR TO ACT PROPORTIONALLY IN GOVERNMENT

Bengkulu, Oct 13 (Antara) - Golkar, whose political position is questioned by many parties, will act proportionally in the government, Golkar regional executive board chairman Kurnia Utama said here on Tuesday.

"All along Golkar has been supporting the government with its critical, objective, and proportional attitude in its struggle to develop this nation," Kurnia Utama said.

He said Aburizal Bakrie's (Ical) victory in the Party's national conference recently as Golkar's top leader would place the party's position on a firm basis as stabilizer in the government.

"Even without opposition, we can do more for this nation because no one can stand alone in his bid to develop the country. Therefore a cooperation is needed and Golkar is ready for that," Kurnia said.

He said Golkar cadres in Benkulu were optimistic that the would be more solid under the leadership of Aburizal Bakrie, popularly known as Ical.

According to him, Golkar's caderes in Bengkulu supported Aburizal's vision and mission to support the government so long as it sided with the people.

"All regional executive boards of Golkar and its cadres fully support Aburizal as the party's top leader for the next six years, and together they will try to have Golkar's glory returned," Kurnia Utama said.

After having been elected as Golkar general chairman, Aburizal said his victory was indeed the triumph of the whole Indonesian people and therefore the party would be able to rise again from a set-back.

"This is the victory of the whole nation," Aburizal said calling on all Golkar cadres to work together for the sake of advancing the party and the nation.

Ical said that Golkar was not a vehicle for individuals but a vehicle for the whole nation to advance to a better life.

He added that the Golkar party had proven that it was able to conduct a democratic process in electing its general chairman and was able to make a distinction between competition and hostility.
