AL-MOAYAD RELEASED FROM AMMAN HOSPITAL
AMMAN, Oct. 14 (Saba) - Sheikh Mohammed Hassan Al-Moayad has been
released from an Amman hospital where he received treatment for
almost two months after he was released from a U.S. prison in
August.
He underwent several checkups for live illness and artery
hypertrophy and is now well, his son Zakaria said, adding that his
father will stay in Jordan's capital of Amman and will be using
medications for weeks.
Al-Moayad will come back to the hospital to undergo necessary
medical examinations to make sure his condition would be stable.
Al-Moayad has suffered from liver and artery illnesses as well as
other illnesses such as diabetes, Prostate and chronic rheumatism.
His health deteriorate in the U.S. jail where he served more than 6
years on terrorist financing charges. He underwent several
surgeries while in detention.
In August, he was released along with his personal aide Mohammed
Zayed under a deal with the U.S. that came after the two confessed
to some charges brought against them.
They admitted providing funds for the Palestinian Hamas Movement
and were transferred to their homeland.
The two Yemenis were arrested in Germany and extradited
to the U.S. in 2003.
They faced charges on providing material support for designated
terrorist organizations, according to the U.S. In 2005, al-Moayad
and Zayed were sentenced to 75 and 45 years in prison respectively.
In October 2008, convictions were overturned for the two, with a
U.S. Appeal Court saying the two Yemenis received unfair trial.
But the court said the two would be retried in 2009.
They made appearances in a New York Appeal Court in June this year
and then won freedom after confessing to providing fund support for
the Palestinian Movement of Hamas.
