Drug traffickers in the rise in Yemen
SANA'A, Oct. 14 (Saba) - Deputy General
Director of Drugs Control in Interior Ministry Musa'ab al-Sofi has revealed that
the drug traffickers
are increasing in Yemen as an entry point to neighboring countries.
His remarks were giving in a lecture in Sheba Center for Strategic Studies, News

On related context, he indicated that the controlled quantities of drugs reached 26
tons in 2008 while it did not register any drugs case in 2004, adding that drug

capsules have increased from 11,000 tablet to 13 million tablets in 2008.
On the other hand, the accused people have reached from 75 people in 2004 in 24
cases to 239 people in 100 cases in 2008, he said, indicating that the drug trade
in Yemen
has increased recently.
The network of drug traffickers has also extended to foreigners as the police
captured 64 people in 2008 compared with 15 people in 2004.
The Yemeni accused people also increased from 72 in 2004 people to 160 people in 2008.
Recently Yemeni and Pakistani smugglers have been arrested for having great
quantities of wine in their processions and are currently trialed for this crime in
Sana'a.
