Seoul stocks up 0.84 pct in late morning

SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.84 percent higher in late Thursday morning, led by steelmakers and financial shares on solid earnings outlooks, analyst said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 13.93 points to
1,663.02 as of 11:20 a.m.
Steel firms headed the broader stock index rally after POSCO reported a
stronger-than-predicted net profit of 1.14 trillion won (US$980 million) for the
July-September period.
Gaines by financial shares also lent support to the gauge, tracking overnight
rises by U.S. peers.
The local currency was trading at 1,159.4 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., up 5.4 won from Wednesday's close.
