Korea Kumho Petrochemical Q3 operating profit falls 70 pct

SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- Korea Kumho Petrochemical Co., a South Korean
petrochemicals manufacturer, said Thursday that its third-quarter operating
profit dropped 70 percent from a year earlier due to increased raw material
costs.

Operating profit came to 36.9 billion won (US$31.9 million) in the July-September
period, compared with 277.2 billion won a year ago, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales fell 21.2 percent on-year to 754.2 billion won but advanced 13 percent
quarter-on-quarter, the company said.
"A rise in raw material prices led our operating profit to plunge in the third
quarter of the year," it said, without disclosing its third-quarter net profit.
Shares of Korea Kumho Petrochemical fell 0.36 percent to 27,350 won as of 1:34
p.m. on the Seoul bourse.
