Int'l boxing body refers S. Korean chief to disciplinary panel
By Kim Boram
SEOUL, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- An international boxing body referred the sport's
South Korean association and its chief to a disciplinary panel for not abiding by
a punitive suspension handed down in August, the body's Web site said Friday.
The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) had suspended Yoo Jae-joon,
head of the Korean Amateur Boxing Federation (KABF), for 18 months on suspicion
of sending an unauthorized team doctor to an international competition.
It had also barred South Korean boxers from participating in international events
earlier this year, but lifted the ban in August after Yoo accepted the
punishment.
The decision was reached to "put the case of Mr. Yoo Jae-joon for review by the
AIBA Disciplinary Commission due to the non-respect of the AIBA Disciplinary
Commission's decision to suspend him for 18 months," the AIBA said in a statement
posted after an executive meeting this week.
It said it had secured enough proof to show that Yoo continued to intervene in
KABF operations despite the suspension.
The KABF will be also brought to the commission for allowing Yoo to remain
involved, it added.
Officials at the KABF denied the accusations, saying Yoo has stayed clear of the
federation's affairs.
