FORMER POLICE CHIEF TAPPED FOR CABINET POST

Jakarta, Oct 17 (ANTARA) - Former national police chief Sutanto was one of the candidates interviewed for a cabinet post by President-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Saturday.

Sutanto did not tell much about his future post in the cabinet to newsmen after the interview, saying only that the president and vice president-elect Boediono had given him directives and asked him to help in their administratino for the next five years, he said.

He would not tell the post he would hold in the next cabinet. He said his task would be merely helping the president make decisions and design strategies based on domestic and overseas realities.

"The president will certainly need right inputs for decision making," he said.

Sutanto is currently chief commissioner of state-owned oil company Pertamina. He was one of the members of the success team for the Yudhoyono-Boediono ticket in the presidential race last July that was won by the pair.

He is rumored to become minister of justice to replace Andi Mattalatta but he had also been mentioned to become chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).***
