ANDI MALLARANGENG INTERVIEWED FOR CABINET POST

Jakarta, Oct 17 (ANTARA) - Presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng became the last candidate interviewed by president-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for a cabinet post on Saturday.

After the interview at Yudhoyono's private residence in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, Andi said he had been given directives with regard to developing the country's younger generation.

"The president-elect just now gave a lot of directives with regard to my future tasks one of which is developing the nation's younger generation to become strong pillars in the national structure," he said.

He said Yudhoyono had also advised him to also develop sports like developing the economy and democracy so that they would progress.

"Hopefully sports will improve together with other sectors and help advance the nation," he said.

If Andi would really be in the cabinet it means Yudhoyono would name a new presidential spokesman.

"Certainly a new spokesman will replace me. It is the president who will determine but whoever he will be he will need cooperation from the media," he said.

Andi was the last of sixteen candidates interviewed on Saturday. The rest of the candidates would be interviewd on Sunday.

Those who have been interviewed are scheduled to undergo a health test at Gator Soebroto Army Hospital on Sunday.***
