Chicken tikka a favourite in Kazakhstan!

Zafri Mudasser Nofil

Almaty (Kazakhstan), Oct 18 (PTI) It has already
occupied a pride of place in menues in various parts of the
world and now chicken tikka is making inroads into this former
soviet republic.

It is increasingly becoming a favourite delicacy among
Kazakhs who rush to the very few Indian restaurants in the
country to tickle their taste buds.

While this former capital city boasts of only two
Indian restaurants that serve non-vegetarian food, there is
only one such outlet each in capital Astana and the industrial
city Atyrau.

Sunil Gopal started his East-West restaurant in Astana
four years ago along with a friend.

Located in Kabanbay Batyra Avenue, the restaurant has
dedicated 70 per cent of its menu to Indian food besides
serving Italian and local cuisines.

"Initially only Indians came to my restaurant. But now
locals love this place also," Gopal told PTI.

"The locals love trying chicken tikka, kebabs and
biryani. Others don't mind trying stuff like chicken makhani
or chicken korma," he says.

"Now there is also a trend of Kazakhs opting for a
course or two of Indian food at wedding banquets," Gopal, who
hails from Kerala, says. (MORE) PTI ZMN
