KAZAKH-CHICKENTIKKA 2 LAST
Namaste is the most popular Indian restaurant in
Kazakhstan with a branch each here and in Atyrau.
As you enter the restaurant here on Satpaev Street,
beautiful Kazakh girls draped in saris welcome you.
"Pakodas go well with drinks for the locals. Then
there are kebabs and tikkas. For the main course, they usually
go for less spicy stuff," says chief cook Giri.
Started in the 1990s, the restaurant has become a
frequent meeting point of Indians settling here.
Another restaurant in Almaty that serves both
vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is Maharaja, located in
Ablai Khan Avenue.
"The locals like less spicy food. So they usually go
for chicken tikka and kebabs," says Dushyant Kumar, owner of
Maharaja, located in Ablai Khan Avenue.
There is also a pure vegetarian restaurant Govindas at
Ablai Khan Avenue here.
Nazira Rakhmetova, an interpreter, likes pakodas.
"I am crazy about the cheese fries (paneer pakodas)
with the green sauce (chutney) and pickles," she says.
Last month, the Embassy of India in Kazakhstan had
organised an India Week and Food Festival in Astana and Almaty
in collaboration with the Rixos President Hotel (Astana),
Intercontinental Hotel (Almaty) and Air Astana as part of its
continued efforts to promote people-to-people contacts and
strengthen bilateral relations between India and Kazakhstan.
