S. Korea, Chile to discuss possible revisions to FTA
SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Chile will hold talks this week for
possible changes on farm goods in their free trade agreement, officials here said
Sunday.
South Korea and Chile signed the deal in February 2003 and the pact came into
force in 2004. But the two sides agreed to discuss slashing tariffs on some 300
agricultural goods when the Doha round of trade liberalization negotiations ends.
As the Doha round drags on for years, Chile has demanded South Korea take up the
agriculture issue.
The two sides will discuss the issue on Friday by video conference, according to
officials at South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
"The issue can be discussed at Chile's demand, but our stance is that any
decisions could be negotiable once the Doha round finishes," said a ministry
official.
