PRESIDENT PROMISES TO IMPROVE PEOPLE'S WELFARE


Jakarta, Oct 20 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his inaugural address on Tuesday promised to improve the people's welfare, democracy, and justice in his next five-year government.

The president said improvement of the people's welfare would be on top of his priorities to be realized in his government with Vice President Boediono.
"Improvement of the people's welfare will be the first priority to be stepped up through economic development on the basis of superiority in competitive power, natural resources management, and improvement ofn human resources," the president said.
Inaugurated for his second term in office from 2009 to 2014 at the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) building here on Tuesday, President Yudhoyono promised that economic development would grow even faster in the next five years.
"Our economy should grow higher in a fair and inclusive manner," the president said.
For the development in democracy, the president promised a democratic order with the political freedom and participation of people without ignoring political order and stability.
At the end of his inaugural speech, the president reminded his countrymen to remain in harmony with each other and to unite in maintaining national integrity and unity.
The president also extended his gratitude to all Indonesian people who had supported him and given him a mandate to continue with the government for the next five years with Vice President Boediono.
President Yudhoyono also extended his gratitude to former Vice President Jusuf Kalla and said the latter's outstanding dedication to the state and nation would never be forgotten.
"I would like to express my gratitude to former Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Your dedication has earned a place in history and will be remembered always in the 2009-2014 United Indonesia Cabinet," President Yudhoyono said.
On hearing President Yudhoyono's gratitude, Jusuf Kalla, who sat next to new Vice President Boediono, nodded his head and smiled.
President Yudhoyono said that in a democratic system, there was a time to differ in opinion, a time to debate, and a time to unite in building the state and nation.
He said he would continue to pursue independent and active policies in world affairs and cooperate with any nation which had the same goals as Indonesia.
Yudhoyono and Boediono were officially inaugurated as Indonesia's president and vice president for the 2009-2014 period at a special plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) here on Tuesday.
