SBY MORE SECURE IN NEXT FIVE YEARS: OBSERVER
Semarang, Oct 20 (ANTARA) - A political observer said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) would be more secure in the next five years because no opposition would hinder his administration.
"SBY will not be hindered by opposition from political parties or the parliament because all forces have been accumulated to support SBY," Teguh Yuwono from state Diponegoro University in Semarang, Central Java, said here on Tuesday.
SBY and Boediono were on Tuesday inaugurated as the country's president and vice president for the next five years.
Teguh said political parties that would become the opposition would be only the Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP), the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) but their power was quite small.
"The Golkar Party can no longer be relied on to be an opposition party because its chairman, Aburizal Bakrie, has signed a political contract with SBY along with other parties such as the Properous Justice Party (PKS) and the National Awakening Party (PKB)," he said.
Therefore, he said, the administration of SBY-Boediono in the nex five years would be peaceful and not be mired in problems or disturbed by political opponents.
"Probably, what SBY may face are students, mass media, PDIP, Gerindra and Hanura which are not as strong as five years ago," he said.
Regarding the effectiveness and ideals of the next government Teguh said it would all depend on SBY as the one who makes the decisions.
"SBY could use his political clout to issue pro-people policies without fear of being disapproved by the parliament or the vice president like when the vice presidency was held by Jusuf Kalla," he said.
He said SBY could also use his political power to eradicate corruption and create a government which is free of money politics.
It would be better if SBY would use the opportunity to issue policies favorable to the people.
"In the past five years, SBY could not take a decision freely because Jusuf Kalla was there, who could say 'no' to it. The situation now is different with Boediono as vice president," he said.
He said Boediono seemed to be a figure who could not make political maneuvers like Jusuf Kalla because Boediono did not have political backing like Kalla who was then chief of the Golkar Party.
"Thus, Boediono must be able to prove that the post of vice president is not like a 'spare tire' to SBY," he said.
