PANGANDARAN BEACH IN INDONESIA PRACTICALLY FREE FROM TSUNAMI
Ciamis, Oct 20 (ANTARA) - The Pangandaran coastal waters in Ciamis regency, West Java, which is located quite close to the epicenter of the 4.9-magnitude earthquake which struck about 108 km southwest of Cilacap, Central Java, Tuesday, at 7 p.m, is practically free of the possibility of a tsunami.
Chairman of the Pangandaran Beach Tourist Agency Asep Dudi said in Tasikmalaya Tuesday that judging from the movements of the waves in the area, the situation appeared to be normal.
He also said that if the surface of the sea dropped too significantly, a tsunami might be imminent.
While the quake was relatively low, many guests at the row of hotels on the Pangandaran beach rushed out of their hotels and motels for fear of a tsunami.***3***
