Yemen hosts International Book Fair



SANA'A, Oct. 22 (Saba) -Vice President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi launched on Thursday the 26th annual Sana'a International Book Fair with the participation of 350 local, Arab and international publishing houses.

The 12-day fair, organized by the General Book Authority in the capital Sana'a, includes more than 400000 titles in various scientific and cultural fields as well as the sources of electronic knowledge.

After cutting the ribbon of the Fair, Hadi visited some wings of the fair, kicking off the Omani wing where he was briefed on the details of Oman's participation in this fair.

The Vice President also visited the wings of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and others, getting acquiesce with the latest publications of the books on various literary, historical, economic, geographical and cultural specialties.

He expressed appreciation for the organizers' efforts to make the preparations for holding the fair, describing them as excellent.

He confirmed his country's political leadership represented by President Ali Abdullah
Saleh pays much attention to this aspect as it represents a special importance to educate and culture the community on various aspects of life.

Hadi also attended a ceremony on Germany's participation as the guest of honor at the Sana'a International Book Fair. In the ceremony, the deputy German ambassador to Yemen expressed satisfaction with his country's participation in this fair.

Delivering the ceremony, the German diplomat reviewed the strong relations between Yemen and Germany, stressing the importance of culture in development of relations between peoples, cultures and civilizations.

The German publishing houses participating in the fair will translate books from Arabic to German and vice versa.

Germany introduced more than 500 titles being translated from German to Arabic in addition to a variety of cultural events, including an exhibition of drawings and seminars.

Head of the General Book Authority Faris al-Saqqaf said that the fair also includes a number of cultural events such as concerts, lectures, and books signings.

The Sana’a International Book Fair is one of the most important Arabic book fairs.
