Katara murder case:HC allows Vikas to attend sister's marriage


New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday
refused to grant interim bail to Vikas Yadav, who is
undergoing life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case,
but allowed him to attend his sister's marriage under judicial
custody.
A bench comprising Justices Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi
allowed Vikas, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D
P Yadav, to participate in his sister's wedding ceremony on
November 1 from 5 pm till his sister leave for her husband's
house next morning.
The court directed the police officers to accompany him
in plain clothes during the function.
Vikas had sought three months interim bail to attend the
function and perform the rituals as the bride's elder brother
during the ceremony.
On May 28 last year, Vikas and his cousin Vishal were
convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing
Nitish Katara, a son of an IAS officer, in 2002 as they
opposed Katara's intimacy with Bharati.
Their appeal against the trial court verdict is pending
before the High Court.
Vikas has also been convicted in ramp model Jessica Lal
murder case and sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the
Delhi High Court for destruction of evidence.
Vikas and his cousin Vishal killed Katara on the night of
February 17-18, 2002, after kidnapping him from a marriage
party in Ghaziabad. PTI AAC
