US Consul-General satisfied with amenities at TN refugee camps

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Oct 24 (PTI) US Consul-General
Andrew Thomas Simkin has expressed satisfaction over basic
amenities at the refugee camps for Sri Lankan Tamils in the
southern state.

Simkin, who visited the refugee camp at Mandapam near
here Friday evening alongwith consulate officials, said they
inspected the camps here and in Tuticorin District and were
satisfied with the basic amenities provided by the state
government.
He visited the camps to assess whether aid provided by a
US-based funding agency to a voluntary organisation OFFER,
taking up welfare measures for the refugees in the camps, was
being utilised properly, officials said.
OFFER is providing funds to maintain toilets and for
drinking water and housing facilities to the refugees.
Secretary of OFFER Suriyakumari and director Zakhariyas also
