India, US high level meeting on trade from Monday

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) India and the US will hold high
level discussions here Monday to strengthen their bilateral
commercial ties.

"US Trade Representative Ron Kirk who is heading the US
delegation for meeting of the US-India Trade Policy Forum
(TPF) is also likely to discuss the stalled Doha Round of
talks for a global trade deal," a senior commerce ministry
official said.
The TPF deliberates on the difficulties faced by the
businessmen of the two countries as regards the government
policies and fiscal issues.
Established in July 2005, TPF is an arrangement between
the US and India to discuss trade and investment issues.
Kirk, who will meet his Indian counterpart Commerce and
Industry Minister Anand Sharma, is also likely to discuss the
proposed bilateral investment treaty.
The bilateral agreement would provide a framework for
more secure return on investments, insure investment risks
taken by American companies investing in India and also ensure
fair processes for the award of projects.
With bilateral trade exceeding USD 43 billion in 2008,
India is the 18th largest supplier of goods to the US market.
Kirk would also hold meetings with Indian business
leaders and with Indian and the US officials.
In September, Kirk was in India to participate in the
informal WTO ministerial meeting. MORE PTI RR
