Yemen army kills 21 rebels and detains 12 others
SAADA, Oct. 24 (Saba) - Security
sources said on Saturday that 21 Houthi insurgents have been killed and 12 others
arrested
as the army continued to comb many areas in the northern Yemen provinces of Saada
and Amran.
The sources were quoted by the military-run 26Sep.net as saying that the security
and military unites had attacked the dens and hideouts of the rebels at al-Zaberat
mountain.
The army controlled the mountain and the neighboring areas, killing 6 rebels in the
operation.
The military unites attacked rebel groups in Sahlaween region as they were
preparing a position, killing 15 rebels, others wounded and some escaped.
The sources added that 5 rebels others were killed and others wounded when they
were trying to infiltrate into al-Damam area.
The security forces also seized weapons at the rebels' strongholds and hideouts.
"They also remove landmines planted by the rebels and repelled attacks by the rebels.
The army launched early August an offensive against the Houthi rebels in Saada and
Amran that was triggered by continuous rebel violence and lawbreaking.
The army has been battling the Houthi followers since 2004, with the government
offering several truces that were rejected by the Houthis.
