Yemen talks with WB on land, air, roads transport cooperation

SANA'A, Oct. 24
(Saba)- Minister of Transport Khalid al-Wazir discussed on Saturday with Head of the
World Bank
Transport Committee Jan Charles, who is visiting Yemen currently, the WB strategy in
the field of land, air and roads transport in Sana'a.
The strategy memo, prepared by WB, includes a legal institutional framework of air
and land transport and the required measures to reform the transport sector upon
which
to implement action plans for long-term transport strategies.
During the meeting, they reviewed the report prepared by the "ESCWA" over the
strategy on improving traffic safety in roads in Yemen including the proposal of
forming a
committee from all stakeholders headed by the Minister of Transport to develop the
strategy of road safety.
For his part, the WB official praised measures taken by the Ministry of Transport
in the reform program of transport sector, particularly in the field of the
establishment
of the general authority for regulating road transport and the issuance of a
regulating bylaw of land outlets in Yemen and the procedures taken to reform Yemeni
Airways.
