OECD forum to kick off in S. Korea this week

SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Yonhap) -- Global leaders, renowned economists and members of the
business community will gather in South Korea this week to attend an
international forum on how to foster global economic growth and prosperity,
organizers said Monday.

The OECD World Forum, the third of its kind, will kick off on Tuesday for a four
day run in the nation's southeastern port city of Busan, according to the
National Statistical Office (NSO), which organizes the event jointly with the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The gathering was first held in Italy in 2004 in a bid to more accurately gauge
the extent of economic growth and development, which can apply both to advanced
and developing countries, the NSO said.
This year's forum, being held under the theme, "Charting progress, building
visions and improving life," will likely attract around 2,000 people from some
100 countries. Renowned Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz will also
be among the participants, the NSO said.
