BEI INDEX CLOSES LOWER ON NEGATIVE REGIONAL SENTIMENT

Jakarta, Oct. 27 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on late Tuesday morning closed lower.

The BEI index went down 48.21 points or 1.95 percent to 2,419.50.

Sell-offs at regional bourses affected the Indonesian stocks, according to David Ferdinandus, an analyst of Indomitra Securities.

However, he believed that the market would be bolstered by sound financial reports of corporate performance in the third quarter of 2009.

The overnight falls of the Dow Jone index was also surprising despite the Bank of America right issue and extended credit tax incentive for first-time property buyers until November 30, 2009, he said.

At Asian regional bourses, the Hang Seng index weakened 330.21 points or 1.46 percent to 22.259,52, Nikkei-225 index lost 142.22 points or 1.37 percent to 10.220,40, and Straits Times shares dropped 13.49 points or 0.50 percent to 2.703,09.

At the BEI, there were 50,686 times of transactions, involving 2.796 billion shares worth Rp2.010 trillion. Some 25 shares advanced, 194 lost, 26 others remained static.
