Seoul stocks open lower on U.S. falls
SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Tuesday as
overnight U.S. losses dampened investor confidence, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 13.15 points, or
0.79 percent, to trade at 1,643.96 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Wall Street shares tumbled on Monday as a stronger U.S. dollar pressured
commodities stocks including energy firms. The Down Jones industrial average fell
1.05 percent with the tech-laden Nasdaq shedding 0.59 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,186.35 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 8.75 won from Monday's close.
