DEAD MIGRANT WORKER'S RELATIVES DEMAND APOLOGY FROM M'SIAN EMPLOYER
Jember, Oct 27 (ANTARA) - Relatives of Muntik binti Bani, a female migrant worker who died in a Malaysian hospital after being tortured by her ethnic Indian employer, said the latter should officially apologize to the Indonesian president and people.
"We hope that Muntik`s employer will officially apologize to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the Indonesian people for his or her misdeeds against her," said Muntik`s first child, Mariono, in his house in Jember, East Java, on Tuesday.
Muntik binti Bani (47) died on Monday (Oct 26) after being treated at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia, since Tuesday (Oct 20), for physical injuries inflicted on her by her ethnic Indian employer.
According to Mariono, his mother had experienced inhumane violence because his mother was held captive and beaten so severely she broke several bones in her body.
"The torture my mother suffered is also felt by all Indonesians working in Malaysia and therefore, her employer should formally apologize," he said.
It was quite possible that more Indonesians would meet the same fate as Muntik in Malaysia and that`s why the Indonesian government must take firm action in cases of violence against migrant workers working in Malaysia, he said.
"We do not want what my mother went through to happen to other migrant workers," he said.
Muntik`s husband, Suparmo, said he received a call from his wife who told him about the torture by her first employer, named Wah Hoi Cit Wan in Selangor, Malaysia.
"My wife was beaten by her first employer, then Muntik changed employer but she was tortured even more by her second employer," he said.
"The things that have happened to my wife can happen to other migrant workers overseas so that the torturing employers must officially apologize to the Indonesian people, he said.
"We hope that the employers who are now being prosecuted under Malaysian law will officially apologize to the Indonesian people so that what happened to Muntik will not happen to other workers," he said.
Muntik had worked six years in Malaysia but she never told her husband how many times exactly she was beaten by her employers.
"I did not know if my wife got punished from her employer which can causes her death," he said.
Based on the information received by the family, Muntik body will arrive at Juanda Airport Surabaya on Wednesday (Oct 28) or Thursday (Oct 29), then it will be brought to the funeral home in Dusun Jeruk Barat Village, Wringin Agung village, Jombang sub-district, Jember district.
Muntik leaves behind a husband named Suparmo and five children named Mariono, Siami, Citra, Hartono and Suprihatin.
